It’s easy to lose oneself in the pursuit of grades, test scores and certificates. With goals like “memorize 2000 words” or “score above 95” in today’s large classes, it’s no wonder that it seems as if something is only worth learning if it has a number or score attached to it. Yet, when students spend all their time trying to anticipate test questions and memorize the answers ahead of time, learning becomes a meaningless race to the end.  It’s merely the pursuit of a red number on the top of a paper that quickly becomes meaningless after the test is finished.
